Unsuccessful Experiment

Millions of eyes look up at the windows, bridges, capers, and they might be scanning a blank page. Many are the cities like Phyllis, which elude the gaze of all, except the man who catches them by surprise.

From: invisible city by Italo Calvino

Invisible is not we can't see it is we see but we ignore it

The object in the museum lost their function and context

We just read the object from the museum label instead  of the object itself  in the museum.

We trust it , we believe it

In this experiment I am questioning  this most common behavior when we visit the museum

We look the object as a blank paper

Nothing we can't read from it

We usually ignore it

The experiment is not successful, but it helps me to continue questioning

Why we believe the meaning constructed by someone else?
How people construct meaning?
It is a kind of cognitive error that we believe the museum?

Exhibition Reflection(LCC and CSM)

Recently, I visit the show of the first year photographic in CSM and the postgraduate show of graphic design in LCC.

Personally I prefer the former one,no matter is the way they organize the show or the work they present. In the CSM show, every student has an artist statement, is a kind of manifesto, it is very helpful to help me understand what the photographer doing in a direct way.

I really like the work called  untitled gap(Mengjiao Xu).
We know there is the gap inside ourself, but we do not know what the gap is, we can feel it but we can't touch it or represent it.I love the idea that there is a gap existing in our body, the arm does not know the feeling of the feet. I also like the image and her statement, but I don't like the way she shows her workI think display them separately better than print the in one paper.

I don't like the LCC show because is very easy to lose in tons of information. There is no statement, every student has a research process book, it's good to show how the work developed but it is very difficult to catch the essential information through their book,
It is not everyone have patience to read the whole books.

I should say, the most of graphic student start a question to how to address some problem and issues in our life, such as how to promote one culture in another culture at the same time keep it original through communication design.it seems that there has different project but actually they have a similar perspective of communication design. This is the main reason i dislike this show, why they don't have their own view about this subject, why they produce a book as the final outcome.

Everything is too organized to like it.

THE MORE YOU DONE, THE MORE YOU GAIN(Personal Reflection Of First Tutorial)

Dave told me, you will have a tough year, you must improve your English.

Honestly, even I study Precessional English course I still have a language issueespecially communicate with classmates and present my ideas. I could learn more from my peers if I am a native speaker, because we come from different background and culture and I really want to know what happen surround me. I need to pay more attention to language study.

I do three experiments in this tutorial, the most excited is that no matter what I say, my tutor will tell me about her ideas and how does she see my work. Which direction is working well, which does not work. It is kind of from a different point of view to see my work. That is very helpful! I will listen to the record  again to organize my thought.

I am still confused about my work, because this is the first time I start to use divergent thinking to practice my research. I stop to doing subjective design, it seems like everything is lost my control. I think it is not bad but I am not sure what I did was in a right direction.

Anyway, no matter bad or good, I must move forward, I can't stop and just stay here.
It is not about the win and success , I just want to challenge myself to see how far I can go.
